i rejoice for i have given my guitar unto the lord

By anders pearson 11 Nov 2001

a coworker of mine who does artsy photography stuff is working on a project that follows the hypothetical “what if janice joplin were still alive and performing?”

<p>she did a shoot today at <a href="user.pl?user=jerfunfin">another coworker</a>&#8217;s apartment (which happens to be two doors down the street from mine) using <a href="http://tammyfayestarlite.com/">Tammy Faye Starlite</a> as her model. for the shoot, she borrowed my guitar (a very <a href="/images/iceman.jpg">badass</a> axe). </p>

<p>i can&#8217;t wait to see how it all came out.</p>

<p>afterwards, we went down to the east village and had drinks and played pool.</p>

dreams of war

By anders pearson 10 Nov 2001

two terrible dreams last night. both about war.

<p>in the first one, i was sitting on the porch of my parents&#8217; house in maine just watching the sky on a nice sunny day. over the horizon, flying fast and low came two jets. i&#8217;d never seen any like them before. blue and white with forward swept wings. very futuristic looking. more kept coming along with a growing number of smaller, darker fighter jets joining them in intricate aerial maneuvers. since i&#8217;ve always been a sucker for planes, i&#8217;m watching intently, pleasantly entertained by the surprise airshow. then there&#8217;s a pop and a flash of light as one of the planes falls from the sky quickly followed by more and more explosions and gunfire. as i realize that it&#8217;s not an airshow but a real dogfight and the beginning of a war, i get that same overwhelming nausea that i felt for continously during and after 9/11.</p>

<p>i don&#8217;t remember the second one as well but i was in the middle of some large mountain range that was littered with tunnels and underground homes. an entire culture lived inside the mountains (kind of like hobbits). the opposite side of the mountains from where i was were being hit with nuclear weapons. i could feel the earth shake and the heat of the blast on my face as entire sections of the countryside were vaporized.</p>

work

By quiet 10 Nov 2001

So I just got hired as a RedHat sysadmin. Not sure how I feel about this, except pretty terrified. I’m not really qualified for the position, I just hope I can get qualified before the shit hits the fan. Hard to believe that on Monday I was working a phone survey job for 7 an hour, and on Friday I was finishing up my second day at ZedX. I guess we’ll see how it turns out. They’re enrolling me in a class at a business school for RedHat administration. The cool part about that is: 1. it’s free and 2. the business school is about a 2 minute walk from my apartment.

lychee

By anders pearson 10 Nov 2001

spent the day wrestling with some nasty dhtml stuff. the end result will be cool but javascript is still definately not my favorite language.

<p>went out for drinks and dinner this evening with a bunch of people from work.</p>

<p>went to some bar down in soho called &#8220;clay&#8221; and had lychee nut martini&#8217;s. very yummy. then we went to some restaurant named &#8220;fez&#8221; for dinner. not bad. better than my usual friday night (and most other nights) plan of: work late, go home, have a beer and some dinner, surf the web till i get tired, go to sleep.</p>

Oh boy sleep! That's where I'm a Viking!

I almost feel like I’m back in college. I’m so tired and my brain just doesn’t want to function anymore. It’s probably because I’m becomming obsessed with chess. Reading chess books are almost like reading math books. Nothing is quite as bad as a math book though.

<p>Well, I can&#8217;t say it enough. thraxil is damn nifty. Is it the weekend yet?</p>

monsters

By anders pearson 08 Nov 2001

watched monsters, inc. again last night with some people from work. fun little movie. pretty much everyone i’ve talked to that’s seen it has: liked the movie, really liked the short birds sequence before the movie, and been disappointed with the star wars trailer.

test test test test…with syncopation now.

<p>i read an article in New Scientist today on bioterrorism. The powers that be suspect that the anthrax used in the recent mail attacks were weaponized using the secret US method. They suspect this because the particles were all between 1.5 and 3 microns in size. True, it could have been sifted, but further tests are being done to figure this out. As far as I know, it can be difficult to make homogenous sized particles at the micron and sub-micron level. I&#8217;m assuming that this is the evidence that has made spokespersons suspect sophisticated scientists manufactured the anthrax powder. Whether or not the powder was manufactured by the same person(s) who mailed the the letter seems to still be under investigation.</p>
